Ueno 上野

Ueno

Today I went to the Zoo in Ueno Park. Unfortunately the Big Panda isn't there anymore If you remember Ling Ling, she used to be at this zoo, until she passed way last year. There are your standard zoo animals: Lions, Tigers, [polar] bears, but you also get some more exotic ones: Rhinos, Kangaroos, Flamingos, Spider Monkeys, etc. The enterance fee is (600 yen) which is a reasonable price. Althought there a few places to eat inside the zoo and around the enterance, the places set up further away ( yakisoba, takoyaki, etc. ) are cheaper for a lot more, so you might as well hold off for awhile.
Ueno Park is so beautiful. There are several different shrines and temples there, a few places to grab a bite and lots of spots to sit (on a blanket) and eat.
Around Ueno Station there are a few namebrand shops, an electronics shop (like the one in Akihabara) and lots of places for more cheap eating and haggling. Always ask for a discount at these types of places, or else you'll always end up paying the full price ( reminds me of NYC Chinatown ). I need to go again, there were too many shops and not enough time or money in my wallet.

Unfortunately I didn't buy the memory card before we went into Ueno Park and the zoo, but I promise later posts will have pictures! :)

Ciao.

NOTE:
So I decided (let's see how long I can keep this up) to post about the places I go while I'm here in Japan and let you guys know what I did and what I thought of it - Hopefully someone uses the info for their own travels one day.
